Dota 2: The International 2016 prize pool hits $8 million
Esports is growing through competitive gaming and many gamers are pulling in millions in revenue every year. There are tournaments and leagues for many different games, but the biggest earners are from battle arena games like Dota 2, League of Legends, Heroes of the Storm and even first-person shooters like Counter-Strike Global Offensive.
The most anticipated eSports of the year goes to Dota 2. The International 2016 is looking to shatter its previous record of over $18 million for the largest prize pools in eSports history. Currently standing at $8 million, Dota 2 players are rushing in on their purchase of battle passes in exchange for unique in-game rewards and stretching the Dota 2 prize pool even further.
Valve hopes that it will surpass the $18,429,613 milestone set last year as 25% of all battle pass sales proceeds contributes to The International 2016 prize pool. If the total prize pool passes $18,429,613, every battle pass owner will receive three Trust of the Benefactor treasure rewards.
