SXSW: Overwatch Takes Home Esports Game of the Year Award
At the SXSW Conference Gaming Awards on Saturday, Blizzard’s Overwatch manage to grab the prestigious gaming award – Esports Game of the Year.
Michael Chu, Overwatch’s story lead writer, accepted the award that evening and said that the company has a firm belief that any game can be an eSports success if the game is really good.
The game bested several triple A titles, such as Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, Gears of War 4, Killer Instinct: Season 3 and Street Fighter V. The team-based shooter also won awards in other categories, taking home the Excellent in Multiplayer, Most Promising New Intellectual Property and the Trending Game of the Year gaming award.
Overwatch is currently the fastest selling PC game in China, having sold over five million copies and with a player base of over 25 million.
